About the Parade The Ojai Independence Day Committee proudly organizes an old fashioned patriotic parade, down the main street of Ojai, California. The Committee is a non-profit, non-partisan and non-political organization that may not be used as a vehicle for any commercial or political activity. It is staffed entirely by conscientious volunteer Directors, and assisted by volunteer members of the local community with the goal of promoting the celebration of the USA's Independence Day via a parade. The parade is an annual event and consists of generally 60-75 entries. The number of spectators range from 6,000 to 8,000. Parade entries include marching bands, impressive classic cars, floats, equestrian entries, color guards and dignitaries. The heart of our parade is the participation of the Ojai Valley's children, in so many different presentations. . .walking character entries, bicycle riders, bands, drill teams, marching Scouts, 4-H groups, school equestrian units, sports teams and cheerleaders. Of course the parade has an assortment of floats. The effort of the churches, youth and adult organizations providing theme floats is apparent as each one moves down main street to the appreciation and applause of parade watchers. Distinctive trophies are awarded to1st and 2nd place winners in each category.. There's a special award for best depiction of theme" and for bands. The parade is one of the four main venues of Ojai's Independence Day Celebration. Joined with the July 3rd free evening concert at Libbey Bowl, and followed by the 5:30 p.m. concert at the Ojai Community Stadium, and an extravagant fireworks show at 9:15 that evening. We hope that you will join us for the 45th annual parade on July 4. . .the 2007 edition of Independence Day in downtown Ojai, CA. |
