2007 INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE THEME

"4th OF JULY. . .THROUGH A CHILD'S EYE""

This year's theme rephrases the missionl of our hometown celebration. . . ."making memories for our
children". The 4th in Ojai is for so many a homecoming. . .children and grandchildren return each year to
share the event and their memories.  You don't forget the first time that you rode your bike with your Cub
Scout Pack all the way down the parade route;  when you and your animal participated in the 4-H entry,;
rode on the big truck with the rest of your Little League team, or walked with those giant marshmallows and
the other Brownies and Girl Scouts.

For the float entries you may want to consider focusing on how a child sees the 4th here at home, or
throughout the country.  Walking or riding entries may represent traditional activities of the 4th; picnics,
sports, family parties, and fireworks. Search your mind for pictures of  your 4th memories..

2007 INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE GRAND MARSHAL

This year's Parade Grand Marshal is one of those "behind the scenes" volunteers who contributes her vast
talent to so many of our organizations.  She is truly and angel.  She's hardly ever seen, but what is left by
her presence is felt and enjoyed by everyone.  She regularly decorates the multi-purpose room at the Boyd
Center for each holiday and season. The youth dances, classes and programs are hosted in the usually
dark and drab room.  Our Grand Marshal's decorations add life, color, and show respect to all who enter.

You can find our Grand Marshal  assisting with Ojai Day. Those beautiful and colorful decorations in Libbey
Park are her handiwork.  She climbs her 20 foot ladder to hang the items from the trees, using lightweight
decorations not to damage or stress the precious oaks.

The annual gymnastics exhibition enjoys colorful decoration for its backdrop provided and she climbs her
ladder to provide a colorful a glittering backdrop for our announcer’s area. The color scheme she uses
each year magically matches the theme of the gymnast’s leotards.

She cleans the skate park, donates funds, and supports Ojai’s youth in so many ways. In that area, she is
an advocate, a voice and sometimes a peacemaker.  The original skate park built in 2000 took 6 years of
dedicated service to make happen. Our Grand Marshal was there every step of the way. Once it was built,
she continues to assist in helping to make it better and is currently serving on the 2007 Skateboard Task
force.

The woman with the flowered straw hat always steps up to the plate and offers assistance. She puts her
words into action.  She makes good things happen.  Her enthusiasm is refreshing.  Her positive attitude,
bright outlook and proactive manner is contagious. Ojai is a wonderful place, and there is no doubt it is due
in part to those special people in Ojai who give of themselves in the manner of our
